Possible Contest!

So, now that the holidays are over and stuff I am thinking of running a contest for the new year! Annnnd it may not be so much a contest as a giant art jam. But if people are willing to participate, here's what it is.


WHAT IF DIRGE WERE...?

There are a lot of things to be done with this prompt. I was mainly thinking hey I should have a contest for fun to see what a Dirge Anime Opening would be but I wanted the option for more people to participate than just the animators and artists, so I want to hear what you guys think!

This announcement will also be going on the dA club.

WHOA WHOA WHOA THAT'S A LOT OF MUSICS )B There are actually going to be some rules regarding the kind of music you can use and stuff I'm just seeing how many people will participate for now, so lets not get too far ahead |D If we DO get this going I want it to be done in a way everyone can participate which may involve teams and split up the animators in the community to different teams.

The word 'contest' makes me think 'prize' @w@ Heh, but even without one and all that shenanigans- I'd like to hear more about the exact details of this.

What I might do is have people come up with songs and ideas and the "prize" would be getting theirs animated but I wouldn't want to sell out y'all's skills as animators just like that so :'D

The main detail is that it can't have a song that's already an anime opening and I'd prefer if Japanese songs were avoided, if only because Dirge has people from a few countries and we have more creativity and music available to us for an original deal!

Besides that I don't have many details because I'd like to hear what others think about it!

My thoughts are that all those who are going to contribute efforts should at least get to incorporate one of their ideas into the final product, but that wouldn't quite be a contest anymore, more like a collaboration. xDD

But an anime opening or an animated meme (like making Get Downs of our characters or something) is a project I've always wanted to participate in/animate! @v@ <33

Ohhh, sounds pretty ace, still owo I'd be an animator willing to do some stuff. So long as I can put some input into what's done in the end- (wouldnt be able to animate something too past my skill level or something 8'D so yep). A collaboration like mythee said amongst many animators would be very cool. (Provided there be a deadline to actually motivate the project to be finished by everyone involved equally on time).

I am fail at editing... but i think i could get some nifty pictures maybe?

I'd be willing to animate... though like Sparky said, I'd like input in the final product... Kinda stuck on ideas how one would run a contest like that though...

Hey, an animated meme would be awesome but I want to encourage us making our own memes too, so if you guys have an idea for like, a quick-bite animation that can be repeated in a lot of situations, that would be super cool!

SO, it may work best like this:
a) people post their songs and ideas, animators pick one to do that seems best/most plausible

b) we pick several songs and everyone votes on their favorite fit, then gives ideas as to what should be in it, and again the animators have a final say in the "final cut"


A collaboration would work, and like I meantioned before we could have a couple of teams with an animator and a writer each and then have the general Dirge membership vote on their favorite.


Other rules are:
--1:30-2:00 min. limit on the songs... the song can be longer it'd just have to be clipped for the opening

--Preferably no existing anime openings or Japanese songs, because we are Dirge and we do things our way B8<

--I'd allow parodies or serious entries. Not parody as in making an existing anime opening with Dirge characters, but playing up anime-opening common themes.

Making one animation already takes a whole lot of effort and time, so making several would be killer despite it being a cool contest idea. If we had more animators then I'd be like YEAHRR but even 3 animators working on the same project is still difficult. xD;;

Soooo actually, what you said there Dez is actually a great idea for a contest! It could be a contest for an idea for Dirge's own animated meme! OvO And then the animators could band together and animate a whole bunch of them and string them together to a song/whatever song is part of the meme, idk? xDD

Maybe if it's a catchy/awesome enough meme people on the internet would start doing them themselves and then we'd feel all proud like HOW YOU HAVE GROWN, DIRGEMEME. <3

But that's not an anime opening type thing anymore. xD

Basically, something you said before except more detailed, and motivating to the participants? Idek. Basically, people sign up for the contest. All those who sign up for the contest WILL have at least one of their characters appear in the music video (anime opening style or other). What they are competing for, however, is whose idea for the music video will be used.

The idea should consist of 1) A song, as you said with a length limit
2) A description of the scenes and the flow of scenes going with the song, going into as little or as much detail as they like.

Then after the deadline for idea submissions everyone can listen to the song that person chose while reading what they describe should be depicted along with the music. Then they vote for the one that they think would be the best/most creative/etc. and the winner's idea is the one we all collab on making afterward. x3 I would be willing to help animate for something like that.

Yeahhh basically you repeated what I said but in more words 8D; But at least that means it's a pretty ironed-out concept and it will work out. I was just trying to keep it simple for the sake of being easy-to-read and digest brain-wise, but what you described is what I intended to do! So yaaaaay.

Believe me, I know how much effort it takes to animate something, which is why this would be a really extended contest if it had to be.

Yeah, the contest itself might not take as long but the creation of the amv could be a product spanning months or even a year or more. But then we'd savour it all the more when it's complete. 8'D It's actually a magnificent community activity.
